About Giphter
Gift certificates, what’s the big deal?
The gift card and gift certificate industry in America is booming. Big-time players such as Best Buy, Home Depot, Target and Wal-Mart are selling billions of dollars worth of gift cards every year. Giphter was founded in an effort to help small and medium sized businesses, who may lack the resources that the big guys have, to get in on some of that cash.
Who makes this thing?
Giphter is brought to you by a couple of brothers from the middle of Kansas, whose skill-sets somehow add up to mean the selling of online gift certificates. They may not be in Kansas anymore (now Alabama?), but their small town / small business roots still weigh heavily on their professional goals.
Nate Schmidt (the older brother) has spent the past 7 years creating and growing several successful Internet businesses based around discount gift certificates and tight relationships with independent restaurants across the nation. He’s the founder of birminghammenus.com, kansascitymenus.com, and originalsgc.com.
Mike has spent the last 3 years in Bristol, CT, moving quickly up the corporate ranks while developing many high profile projects for The Worldwide Leader. After resisting his older brother’s prodding for years, Mike finally left ESPN in August of 2007 and Giphter was born.
Why Giphter?
Through all of Nate’s work with restaurants over the years, he's often been asked by his clients if it was possible to sell full-priced, online gift certificates. After a lot brainstorming, and many phone calls to Mike, Giphter officially launched in October of 2007, with a mission to facilitate all of these requests and more.
